Father of the Groom Speech Example
“Family, friends and relatives!
Good afternoon to one and all. For those who don’t know me, I am Neal’s father, Richard. On the behalf of my wife, Jessica and I, I would like to welcome you all and thank you for coming to this very special occasion to celebrate the marriage of my son Neal to Sarah, joining us in this great happiness.
I know about your extensive efforts to travel and reach to this event and you all came from many places, even Seattle, and New York. But the first prize must go to Patricia who has travelled all the way from Argentina. However, you are all here because you have played an important part in the lives of Sarah and Neal for the years, and now you came here to celebrate this happy occasion today. Various Speech Examples Here
Today is, of course, a celebration, not just of the love that has united Sarah and Neal in marriage, but also for the people of the families, who molded and influenced the lives of these two special people. So, Jessica and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Brianna and Jake for bringing such a beautiful daughter to this world and raising her up so well to be such a fine lady. We thank their family and relatives and friends of both families. Thank you all for joining us in celebrating this very special day.
I waited for this moment since the first day Neal invited Sarah for dinner. We all loved her from the first minute we met, and she was very happy and joyful and funny and I think she still is, after four years of being together with Neal. This period of time definitely means that they must get along pretty well.
I remember the day Neal was born. I wanted to make my son an astronaut. But this didn’t happen and he’s a sales manager now. Also, I wanted him to be part of the high school basketball team, but instead he joined the chess club. Although none of these dreams I had were not meant to be, I find the most important thing to be the following. I wanted him to marry a nice, funny, smart, beautiful and loving girl, just like his mother (Then turn to your wife and say: “See dear, you were afraid that I will not mention you all over the speech”). And today, my wish becomes alive. Sarah, we love you just as much as we love any of our boys. You’re like the daughter we never had.
I remember the day Neal told us that he’s going to propose to Sarah. Jessica (my wife) got so emotional and started to hug and kiss Neal, we almost got suffocated. She began discussing all the queries she had about how he’s going to handle life, where, and when he’ll propose and all other stuff about the proposal. You know how sensitive women are when it comes to weddings.
I would also like to thank to Sarah’s parents for all the implication in the wedding’s planning and organizing. A big thank you also goes to Sarah and Neal, who had very definite ideas. Through their attentive planning and great efforts they have turned this day into a tremendous success for everyone.
I also wanted to thank the bridesmaids and groomsmen and the best man for their help again, but Neal already took care of that.
You see, Sarah, Neal is our baby. If he forgets to take out the garbage on purpose, if he plays thirty-six holes of golf instead of eighteen, if he watches Monday night football, Thursday night football, Sunday morning pre-NFL, and Monday night football, he is still a very loving boy and I am sure you guys are going to have a wonderful time together. So please, keep patience with each other.
I would also like to thank the clergyman, my wife, the entourage, the caterers, the video and photo staff, family members, friends and colleagues for being present here and making the day a huge success. Also, thank you all for coming to the wedding, this means so much for us and the newlyweds.
It is normal on the occasions like this to share the best of my marriage advice, based on what I have lived, and this is the occasion to make sure that the best of my emotional heritage has been given to the next generation.
I want you to have a lot of enjoyment all day today and may all your dreams come true for future days and years to come! Happy marriages are those when we marry the person we love, and then we get to be there for each other at any moment in life.
Who has ever been in marriage long enough, found out that you need to forgive whenever one of you doesn’t do the right thing. Also, you might sometimes have to tolerate that you have different tastes and ideas on some aspects. Obviously, without enough patience, there is no happiness in marriage.
The greatest wish of mine for both of you is that through the years, your love for each other will deepen and grow so much, that years from now you will look back to this day, your wedding day, as the day you loved each other the least.
In the end, I’d like to wish you a long and happy marriage life, I also wish you beautiful and smart kids like we had and live the life to the fullest. And not to forget, have fun in the honey moon.
Thank you all for listening with such patience.
So finally, on behalf of all my friends and my family we raise a toast, a toast to your happiness. May the only tears you have in your eyes be the tears of joy, may your life be full of fun, love and laughter!”
